Lindsay, A to Z

Callie over at Calliespondence (Catherine and I have told y'all about our dear friend and her stationery before, here and here ) was kind enough to tag us in a trend that has been sweeping the blogging world, the a to z post!

So here goes ladies, all about me!  :o)

A.  Age: 31. As a child, that put me square in the middle of two great decades.... the 80's and the 90's.  Let's just say that I was obsessed with most of the characters in the photo montage above.  Alf, you handsome devil you.... Scott Baio, you were a major crush on Charles in Charge.... and Punky Brewster, I loved your spunk.... and my Converse All-stars "you" designed.

And on a name-dropping, random, sidenote, I met Webster/Emanuelle Lewis a few years ago at fabulous Decatur haunt Eddie's Attic.  We played pool and he and some of his friends were quite bemused/impressed when I knew most the words to "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang.  What can I say?  I may have been born in the '80's but I know a good '70's tune when I hear one.

These were very similar to my Punky Brewster sneakers.... be still, my 8 year old heart.

A few fave ladies I spent just a few Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons with.
B: bed-size.  King!!!  My husband and I made the switch about 8 months ago and we will never go back.  It just feels so luxurious....

I wish this was me more often than not!

C: Chore you hate.  I hate to admit it, and I wish it wasn't so, but, cooking dinner.  I love to bake and make fun new dishes for parties, but... making a meal every night just stresses me out.  Silly, I know.  (And I know I'm blessed to have food on the table at all)!

D.  Dog: Two, and I'd have more in a skinny minute.  We have Duke, an American Bulldog, and Britches, a Bichon Frise.  Lovebugs, the both of them.  (And Duke is adopted.  If you're thinking about adding some furry love to your family, please rescue a dog - or cat - today)!

E. Essential start to your day:  it didn't used to be this way, but ever since little Junior came along: coffee.  Breakfast Blend please.

F. Favorite Color:   PINK!!!

These were my favorite overalls...

G. Gold or Silver:  although I like both, gold.  In yellow gold, white gold or rose gold.

H.  Height: 5'7 and sometimes closer to 5'8.  Weird but true.

I.  Instruments you Play:  sadly, none... I hope to change this as we just inherited my family's piano.  We'll see...

J.  Job-title:  app-creator, blogger, part-time lawyer, city commissioner, and otherwise-stay-at-home mom. What can I say?  I like to be busy.  :o)

K.  Kids:  one.  He is almost 9 months old and, of course, the little light of our lives.

L.  Live:  Avondale Estates, GA.  Right outside Atlanta, we feel like we get the best of everything here.... we're close to the city but in a charming, small old neighborhood with tree-lined streets, and, most importantly, a community of people we cherish.  Oh! and point of pride.... our little village was featured in This Old House's national article on "Best Old House Neighborhoods 2012."

I grew up just a few houses up the street from our little Lake Avondale.

M.  Movie:  Hmmmm..... I like a lot of movies, most of them typical movies for a Southern gal to love.... Steel Magnolias, Gone With the Wind, Fried Green Tomatoes.  I also could watch 9 to 5 and Tootsie until even Dabney Coleman himself would cry "Uncle!"  (He's just so fun to hate in both movies, isn't he?)

N.  Nicknames:  Are you ready?  I've got some good ones here.  They are all-childhood based, which will become obvious to say the least.  "Tootie" and "McGhee" were two biggies that my grandmother called me (and still does).  "Toonie" was what my mom called me, a shortened-version of "my little tuna fish."  What else?  Oh, my dad still occasionally calls me "Hunzel," which I think was a take-off of Rapunzel.  But the two best?  "J. Frederick Monkton" (again, bestowed by my sweet and creative daddy) and "Hildagruber."  J. Frederick was (I think) a take-off of the name given to the chimp who was The Today Show mascot from 1953 to 1957, J. Fred Muggs.

(Interesting gossip on ol' J. Muggs: one website reports that he bit a co-host, and was later kicked off the show because he apparently got meaner as he got older.  His trainer accused another host of spiking Muggs' OJ with drugs to make him look bad. And we thought only today's celebrities get a bad rap!  Poor J. Muggs.  All he wanted was to drink his mimosa in peace....)

Anyway.... Hildagruber was what my parents called me when I was behaving badly.... this was typical dialogue:

I might have been feeling Hildagruber coming on
 here.... never can tell....

Mom:  "Hildagruber, when did you get here?  We want our sweet little Lindsay to come back.  She was coloring her pictures so nicely before you got here and started screaming and acting so ugly."

Me (mad as all heck and acting even more a fool):  "I'm not Hildagruber!!!!  This is Lindsay!!!"

Mom:  "No, Hildagruber, we know that's you.  Our sweet Lindsay wouldn't act so horribly."

Me: (I would then spout general meanness and pouting, generally resulting in a well-deserved time-out).
You get the picture.

O.  Overnight hospital stays:  Just one, when aforementioned Junior joined our little fam.

P.  Pet peeve:  hmmmmm..... I guess my biggest pet peeve is meanness to others, especially children, animals, and the elderly.  At least pick on someone your own size, cowardly bully.  Or take a swing at me and Catherine.... we have enough vinegar and sass in us to take on someone twice our size, I think!  (And don't think our mouths haven't gotten us into trouble before)....

Q. Quote:  This is so tough!!  I love quotes.  Here are two of my faves...

"If you don't like the road you're walking, pave a new one."  Dolly Parton

"Southerners are like other people, only more so." Blanche Boyd

R.  Righty or Lefty: Righty.

S:  Siblings:  None, unless you count Hildagruber (see section N, above).  Oh, and sometimes in my family we joke that my grandmother Nanny, who always lived with us while I was growing up and helped raise me, was and is more like my sister.  We shared a bathroom when I was in high school, after all...

T.  Time you wake-up:  Generally between 7:30 and 8:00 am, but whenever Junior dictates, really.  I am NOT a morning person.

U.  University attended:  University of Georgia.  Proud to be a Double Dawg with my B.A. in Journalism (focusing on telecommunications and broadcasting) and my J.D. from good ol' UGA as well.  As you who faithfully follow this blog know, my hubs and I adore Athens.  It's truly a second home.

V.  Vegetables you dislike:  I am quite proud of how un-picky I am.  I love almost every veggie!!  But I don't particularly love a radish and I do not care for asparagus, lest it be canned.  Yes, you read that right.

W:  What makes you run late:  when I inaccurately estimate how much time I will need to do something.  However, this is a question better posed for my better-half (of-the-app-business-and-bloggin' world, that is), the oh-so-lovely-but-late Catherine.  tee hee.  (love you, Catherine)!

X.  X-rays you've had: Teeth.  Arm (when I broke it roller skating in second grade).  Nothing else thus far!

Y.  Yummy food:  my mom's potato salad, and my mom's tuna-noodle casserole.  (This blog post is making me nostalgic....and hungry.... and go hug your mamas for me, will ya?  Sure wish I could hug mine's neck right now).

Z.  Zoo animal favorite:  this is tough.  I love animals with a vengeance (so does Catherine, another trait we share).  I guess I'd have to say the llama.  Sorry, J. Fred Muggs, although I do like monkeys....

Have a great weekend, everyone!!  Happy St. Patrick's Day!

xoxo

Lindsay
